Building a Sustainable, Vibrant, Connected
Hauraki Plains Community

Connecting, Supporting, Empowering

Welcome

Welcome to the Hauraki Plains Community Hub, where our vision is to connect, support, and empower the community through shared spaces, resources, and initiatives. We are here to enhance well-being, foster collaboration, and celebrate our unique environment.

Welcome to the Hauraki Plains Community Hub

The Hauraki Plains Community Hub was established in 2020 to bring our community together—combining resources, creating opportunities, and ensuring collaboration and connection.

The concept of a community hub grew out of discussions within the Ngatea Domain User Group. Recognising the challenges faced by sports clubs and community groups—rising costs, declining memberships, stretched volunteer bases, and the increasing demands on people’s time —the group envisioned a space where clubs, organisations, and individuals could come together to share resources, reduce costs, and foster collaboration. The hub is not just about sports or recreation—it is about belonging. It is about creating a vibrant, sustainable space where everyone has the opportunity to get involved and work together for better.

In the 21st century, sports and recreation have evolved. Traditional sports are fading in popularity, while new activities emerge. People now engage in recreation in different ways—opting for pay-to-play options, short modules, and event-based activities. The hub model provides a way to adapt to these changes, offering flexibility, accessibility, and shared support to ensure the longevity of sport and recreation as cornerstones of our community.

By uniting clubs and groups under one umbrella, the hub increases access to funding, enhances participation, and creates a sense of belonging for everyone in the Hauraki Plains.

This is your hub—a place to connect, grow, and thrive. Whether you are a club looking for support, a volunteer eager to make a difference, or a resident seeking ways to get involved, the Hauraki Plains Community Hub is here for you.

Planning is well underway for this year’s Junior Triathlon, and we’re excited to see tickets already selling steadily.

Medals and certificates are being finalised, wristbands have arrived, volunteers are lining up, and race day logistics are coming together.

Now we’re looking for a few more helping hands.

We’re recruiting volunteers to assist with:
🏊 Pool support
🚲 Transition area
🚦 Course marshals
📝 Registration table

If you’re a high school student needing volunteer hours, we’ll provide a certificate recognising your contribution which is perfect for CVs, scholarship applications, or leadership portfolios.

If you’d like to be part of the day, send us an email:
hpcommunityhub@gmail.com.

We’re grateful for everyone already on board. See you there!

𝗡𝗴𝗮̄𝘁𝗲𝗮 𝗦𝗸𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸 – 𝙞𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙨 𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩?

Last year we asked the community what you’d like to see improved across the Plains and we received a detailed message about the condition of the Ngātea skatepark.

There are concerns about cracks, damaged concrete, and safety around some of the ramps. We’ve since visited the site in person and yup – we agree that repairs are needed.

The Hub will be raising this with Council as a safety priority.

We need our voices heard, so we are encouraging you to do the same…

If you or your whānau use the skatepark, you can also help strengthen this request by submitting a service request directly to Council. The more feedback they receive, the stronger the case becomes. If you want with getting the words right, let us know and we can help.

When you bring something to us, we follow it up. That’s what the Hub is here for.

How far do they run???

The TriStars run leg takes place around the Hugh Hayward Domain, on a clearly marked course across grass and pathways. After finishing their bike (or swim for Splash and Dash participants), kids head out onto the final stage of the event.

Distances are designed to suit different ages and confidence levels.

• Tiny TriStars: approximately 950m
• Rising Rockets: approximately 1.9km
• Super Novas: approximately 1.9km
• Mini Splash and Dash: 950m
• Midi Splash and Dash: 1.9km

The run is all about finishing strong. Volunteers are stationed along the course, and there’s plenty of encouragement as kids head toward the finish line.

𝗔 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀:

🏃‍♀️ Shoes are compulsory – use easy to tie laces
💧 A drink of water after the bike helps before heading out to run
🏃‍♂️ Remind kids it’s okay to pace themselves
👏 Meet them at the finish line, cheering them on
