Connecting, Supporting, Empowering

Welcome

Welcome to the Hauraki Plains Community Hub, where our vision is to connect, support, and empower the community through shared spaces, resources, and initiatives. We are here to enhance well-being, foster collaboration, and celebrate our unique environment.

Welcome to the Hauraki Plains Community Hub

The Hauraki Plains Community Hub was established in 2020 to bring our community together—combining resources, creating opportunities, and ensuring collaboration and connection.

The concept of a community hub grew out of discussions within the Ngatea Domain User Group. Recognising the challenges faced by sports clubs and community groups—rising costs, declining memberships, stretched volunteer bases, and the increasing demands on people’s time —the group envisioned a space where clubs, organisations, and individuals could come together to share resources, reduce costs, and foster collaboration. The hub is not just about sports or recreation—it is about belonging. It is about creating a vibrant, sustainable space where everyone has the opportunity to get involved and work together for better.

In the 21st century, sports and recreation have evolved. Traditional sports are fading in popularity, while new activities emerge. People now engage in recreation in different ways—opting for pay-to-play options, short modules, and event-based activities. The hub model provides a way to adapt to these changes, offering flexibility, accessibility, and shared support to ensure the longevity of sport and recreation as cornerstones of our community.

By uniting clubs and groups under one umbrella, the hub increases access to funding, enhances participation, and creates a sense of belonging for everyone in the Hauraki Plains.

This is your hub—a place to connect, grow, and thrive. Whether you are a club looking for support, a volunteer eager to make a difference, or a resident seeking ways to get involved, the Hauraki Plains Community Hub is here for you.

We spoke recently to Hauraki Fitness Centre to see how they are going at the moment, and things are looking great!

Hauraki Fitness Centre is a community-focused, not-for-profit gym based in Ngātea, run by volunteers and built around the idea that a healthy community is a happy community.

The centre offers a mix of traditional gym equipment and Les Mills group fitness, giving locals a practical and affordable place to keep active, build strength, and hang together through the sweat. They are looking forward to getting more new equipment thanks to their grant application success.

The centre is getting weekly enquiries , which is a testament to their ethos of healthy community, happy community – they are serving their community with great intent. That ongoing effort behind the scenes helps keep the fitness centre accessible and relevant for people across the Plains.

You can find Hauraki Fitness Centre at 13B Orchard Road, Ngātea, and learn more through their Facebook page or by getting in touch directly – email haurakifitness@gmail.com.

The Hauraki Plains Community Hub is all about helping shine a light on the clubs, groups, and facilities that contribute to a connected and active community — and Hauraki Fitness Centre is a great example of that.

What does support fr

What does support from the Hub look like in practice?

The Hauraki Plains Community Hub was established to bring people together. We wanted to make it easier to combine resources and to have clubs and groups stay connected.

We know that many clubs manage their own events, funding applications, and day-to-day operations really well. What the Hub is keen to do is help connect the dots.

That might look like:
• sharing information and opportunities
• providing letters of support for funding applications
• endorsing projects that benefit the wider community
• helping connect clubs with council, funders, and other local groups
• creating more visibility for what’s happening across the Plains

Clubs are facing rising costs, changing participation, stretched volunteers, and increasing pressure on people’s time. By working together, sharing support, and looking for opportunities to collaborate, we can help keep sport, recreation, and community life strong on the Hauraki Plains.

If your club or group has something coming up and you think the Hub may be able to support it, get in touch.

TriStars 2026 – What a fantastic day! 🏊‍♀️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♀️

What an incredible morning at the TriStars Junior Triathlon on Sunday. The event was a huge success and it was amazing to see so many tamariki giving it their all in the swim, on the bike and doing their paces through the run. Huge determination and Big smiles.

The biggest highlight of the day was seeing every young athlete out there because they wanted to be there – pushing themselves, supporting each other, and proudly crossing that finish line. It was fantastic to be able to celebrate their efforts with medals, certificates and goodies. Great work kids!

Events like this only happen thanks to the support of an amazing community.

A huge thank you to our sponsors and supporters:

Richardsons Real Estate – Hauraki Plains
Thrifters
Hauraki District Council
Fonterra
Ngatea Rugby & Sports Club

And to the many people who helped make the day run smoothly:

Lions Club of Ngatea
• HPC students
• The lifeguards
• KD’s Beans & Cream
Tucker 39 Media Productions

A special thank you as well to the Hauraki Plains Community Hub committee who worked behind the scenes to bring the event together.

And finally, thank you to all the parents and whānau who supported their awesome young athletes and helped create such a positive atmosphere throughout the morning.

Check out race day photos in our ablum TriStars 2026 — see if you can spot your TriStar!
