Hauraki Plains Community

Connecting, Supporting, Empowering

Welcome

Welcome to the Hauraki Plains Community Hub, where our vision is to connect, support, and empower the community through shared spaces, resources, and initiatives. We are here to enhance well-being, foster collaboration, and celebrate our unique environment.

Welcome to the Hauraki Plains Community Hub

The Hauraki Plains Community Hub was established in 2020 to bring our community together—combining resources, creating opportunities, and ensuring collaboration and connection.

The concept of a community hub grew out of discussions within the Ngatea Domain User Group. Recognising the challenges faced by sports clubs and community groups—rising costs, declining memberships, stretched volunteer bases, and the increasing demands on people’s time —the group envisioned a space where clubs, organisations, and individuals could come together to share resources, reduce costs, and foster collaboration. The hub is not just about sports or recreation—it is about belonging. It is about creating a vibrant, sustainable space where everyone has the opportunity to get involved and work together for better.

In the 21st century, sports and recreation have evolved. Traditional sports are fading in popularity, while new activities emerge. People now engage in recreation in different ways—opting for pay-to-play options, short modules, and event-based activities. The hub model provides a way to adapt to these changes, offering flexibility, accessibility, and shared support to ensure the longevity of sport and recreation as cornerstones of our community.

By uniting clubs and groups under one umbrella, the hub increases access to funding, enhances participation, and creates a sense of belonging for everyone in the Hauraki Plains.

This is your hub—a place to connect, grow, and thrive. Whether you are a club looking for support, a volunteer eager to make a difference, or a resident seeking ways to get involved, the Hauraki Plains Community Hub is here for you.

When community organisations receive funding, it’s not just money, it’s trust.

Every grant, donation, or contribution represents someone saying YES! I back your vision! With that support comes a responsibility to:

• Be transparent
• Report honestly
• Use funds carefully and intentionally
• Deliver outcomes that reflect community priorities

Once you’ve had the go ahead for your project, and the funds have helped make it happen, you’ve got to take the last step with 𝘼𝙘𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮.

It means keeping clear records, making sure the funding is spent as promised and communication is regular and open.

It’s been a theme for us this month and it’s very much a behind the scenes task, but important – because it’s about keeping a good partnership going with trust so we can keep our vision going to serve our community.

Strong communities are built on strong relationships and accountability helps protect those relationships.

How far do they ride???

The TriStars bike leg takes place around the outskirts of the Hugh Hayward Domain, on a clearly marked loop that keeps kids safely away from traffic. Bikes are collected from the transition area near the cricket nets before heading out onto the course.

Distances are designed to suit different ages and confidence levels.

• Tiny TriStars: approximately 1.25km (1 lap)
• Rising Rockets: approximately 2.5km (2 laps)
• Super Novas: approximately 3.75km (3 laps)

Kids follow cones, arrows, and volunteers around the course, riding at their own pace.

𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗶𝗸𝗲-𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝘁? 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗼𝗸𝗮𝘆.
TriStars also offers Splash and Dash options, where kids go straight from swimming to running with no bike required.

𝗔 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀:

🚲 Make sure bikes are in good working order (brakes and tyres checked)
🪖 Transition volunteers will make sure helmets are compulsory and must be fastened before riding
🚲 Practising a relaxed loop beforehand helps build confidence
🪖 Remind kids to slow down near the transition area and listen to volunteers

We’ll keep sharing tips for each part of the event as we head closer to race day.
